Frequency: John Sullivan lost his father thirty years ago. He is still affected by the loss. Somehow with the use of his father’s old ham radio, he can communicate with his father, when his father was still alive. He warns his father of the fire that would kill him. This saves his father but sets off new events that now must be resolved, or John’s mother will now die.
They Won’t Believe Me: Fine James Cain-type melodrama in reference to a philanderer who gets engaged with 3 females, leading to calamity and a tremendous twirl ending. Young succeeds in his unsympathetic role; Johnson does marvels with her scenes as his spouse. Cast includes Susan Hayward, Robert Youthful, Jane Greer, Rita Johnson, Tom Powers, Don Beddoe, and Blunt Ferguson. (95 minutes, 1947)
Black Moon Rising: Vaughn’s hot-automobile ring robs the Black Moon, one of those zoom across-the-vinegar-valleys fantasy devices no taller than a munchkin’s shin; high-tech robber Jones chases. Delinquent rocker turned actor Ving wears a coat and tie, although that’s in regards to it for innovation value; this one merits a Large Moon Ascending.
